Hamletmachine

I was an element supervisor for Hamletmachine at California Institute of the Arts. I was responsible for 2 elements of a rube-goldberg machine, which included budgeting and scheduling the build/ install process of both elements.

The first part of the machine was a series of pulleys that moved a basket which pulled 6 working TV's onto a see saw.

These motions were controlled by stagehands moving hand wenches to achieve the designer's desired timing.

They had to move individually but look like they were connected.

My last element was 25 individually hung pieces of fabric that had to be hung at tension.

During the final moments of the show several pieces of the fabric were "dropped" by into a "safe zone" as part of the action.

Manuals were created for the crew who would be operating each element.  They included pictures, contact info, and troubleshooting options.
